Zinc stearate is an organic substance with the chemical formula C36H70O4Zn, which is a white powder and insoluble in water. It is mainly used as a lubricant and release agent for styrene resin, phenolic resin and amine-based resin. It also has the function of vulcanizing active agent and softening agent in rubber.  

Zinc stearate is white light and fine powder. Molecular formula ZN(C17H35COO)2, molecular structure RCOOZnOOCR(R is mixed alkyl in industrial stearic acid), flammable, specific gravity 1.095,auto-ignition point 900℃, density 1.095, melting point 130℃, slippery feeling. It is insoluble in water, ethanol and ether, but soluble in hot ethanol, turpentine, benzene and other organic solvents and acids.

Zinc stearate is white powder, insoluble in water, soluble in hot ethanol, benzene, toluene, turpentine and other organic solvents; decomposes into stearic acid and corresponding salts when encountering acid; has fire hazard under dry conditions, auto-ignition point 900℃; hygroscopic.

Zinc stearate dissolves in organic solvents after heating and becomes gelatinous when cold, decomposes into stearic acid and corresponding zinc salt when encountering strong acid. It is lubricious, hygroscopic, non-toxic, slightly irritating, non-polluting and non-hazardous. Zinc stearate and calcium stearate can be separated by using the property that zinc stearate is soluble in benzene and calcium stearate is insoluble in benzene.

Zinc stearate is insoluble in polar solvents, but is highly soluble in aromatic compounds and chlorinated hydrocarbons when heated. Their main application areas are in the plastics and rubber industries, where they are used as mold release agents and lubricants due to their good compatibility.
